Property in El Mojon
Thinking of buying Spanish property on the Costa Calida? El Mojon is an urbanisation which runs the length of the beach (the last beach on the coast of Murcia before Alicante). It lies on the tip of the Mar Menor, and marks the start of the Costa Calida, which runs to the south. It is easy to get to - only twenty minutes from Murcia airport and approximately 1 hour from Alicante’s El Altet airport.
El Mojon is part of a protected area, which covers its Blue Flag beaches and salt flats. These salt lakes attract lots of wildlife and are also said to have medicinal effects for treating rheumatism and other ailments. Buildings in El Mojon are subject to strict planning permission so new buildings are not allowed to exceed a certain height. In addition, green areas and children’s playgrounds have to be built into any new developments.
Spanish beachfront properties are always popular and El Mojon’s beach is exceptional. There is a wooden pathway in the sand for easy access by wheelchair, children’s climbing frames and in the summer months there is a lifeguard on duty. The facilities are excellent and no dogs are allowed. There are numerous bars and restaurants overlooking the beachfront. Further down the beach past the promenade there is access to the salt flats which are fun to explore by strolling along the wooden boardwalks. Past the salt flats is the yachting club close to San Pedro del Pinatar.
